Solo Vegetarian Travel: Prague, Czech Republic

In December 2021 I took a trip by myself to Prague, Czech Republic, also known as Praha, City of a Hundred Spires. Paired with Budapest and Vienna, solo vegetarian travel to Prague was one of the best experiences in my life! I recommend that everyone travel internationally on their own at least once!

Day 1

I checked into the most adorable Air BnB with a loft in Prague and settled in. Of course first on my list was a hunt for vegetarian food. Although there was Beas Vegetarian Dhaba just the next block over from where I was staying, I headed instead to the grand opening of OMG and I was not disappointed. Check their first ever review by me that has gotten over 20,000 views!

Next, I walked over to the Dancing House, a must-see building that was not too far. At night, there were sights to see walking North along the Vltava River, such as the Narodni divaldo (National Theater) on the way to the famous Charles Bridge.

Day 2

I picked up coffee and a parfait at the nearby Cafe Jungmann and headed to the Old Town Square. Since I was early and nothing was open, I walked to the Prague Metronome and explored the neighboring park. I then walked back to Old Town Square in order to watch the Prague Astronomical Clock chime and then took a tour of the Old Town Hall including an underground portion. I walked around the National Gallery – Kinsky Palace and Central Gallery. Stopped at Myraw Cafe for a quick raw food vegetarian lunch and then headed to my tour of the Charles Bridge.

For dinner I ate some pesto ravioli at Palo Verde Vegan and stopped by Donut Shop for a vegan donut. My evening adventure consisted of a trip to Petrin Park, Petrin Funicular, and the top of the Petrin Tower. The cutest truck down at the park sold a Prague favorite – mulled wine! Picked up some snacks and coffee for breakfast the next day at a grocery stall where I saw the most adorable jack-o-lantern stickers on persimmons!

Day 3

On the Divoka Sarka hike, I ran into almost no one which was creepy but it was a very pleasant hike nonetheless. All the way on the other side of town I walked around the National Gallery – Tradefair Palace. I enjoyed paneer tikka and naan at Curry Palace Indian restaurant and got my nails done at a mall nearby. The Nardoni Muzeum (National Museum) was filled with amazing specimens of all different types including animals and gemstones.

I came back to my Air BnB to change and went to OMG again because I just HAD to. Everyone there was so sweet and happy to see me, and they even gave me green tea mochi balls as an early birthday present. I found $7 tickets online to see the Czech Philharmonic quintet and the Rudolphium and it was absolutely delightful. Stopped by some souvenir shops including my favorite “Made by Prague” before calling it a night.

Day 4

My birthday!!! I got to Prague Castle before the sun rose to get my ONE glamor shot in front of St. Vitus Cathedral within the Prague Castle. As you can see, I probably took over 100 shots with the help of a makeshift cardboard stand and my Apple Watch to get “the one” – worth it!

Vegan bagel and cream cheese at Ezra’s Bagels and a Starbucks pumpkin spice CREAM latte – something different than what’s available in the States. I got to see the inside of the St. Vitus Cathedral and explore the National Gallery – Salm Palace. Stopping by the Medieval Tavern Krcma U Krale Brabatskeho for a pilsner was a must amidst visiting the galleries.

As I was frantically trying to find the last National Gallery to visit before it closed, I crashed hands first into a pole and all 10 of my fingers started to bleed (I was looking down at my phone and walking fast). I was so thankful for the nicest bellhop at a nearby hotel who helped sanitize and bandage my hands. Bad things can always happen when you’re alone in a foreign country! The best thing is to be mentally and physically prepared and be aware of your surroundings. Even though I was shaken I made it to the Lennon Wall and ate Thai food at Noi. The Nightmare Horror Bar cheered me up with lot with its Halloween vibes! I opted to skip the absinthe bar and that was probably for the best lol.

I flew to Budapest the next day!
