This is a guide of things to do in San Antionio! San Antonio is such an underappreciated place to visit, especially for the food!
Nature
My first time was our day trip from Austin after we got engaged. On the way we stopped by Natural Bridge Caverns and Frederick Wilderness Park. Both were great nature attractions to mix it up from the city life.
Riverwalk
The Riverwalk is such a beautiful, different place, the walkable areas branch out in several directions. The restaurants on the walk itself are quite touristy, some looked better than others but Casa Rio was a good one if you want to eat on the water. The first time we ate at Casa Rio, just one table over from where my parents dined not too long before! The first time we went the walkways were packed with tourists, the second time I went I felt like I had the whole area to myself.
Downtown
The city above the riverwalk is not in the best condition and some areas can feel run down. However if you head just a little further East or South, even along the Riverwalk, you will find some great little gems of restaurants. Two different locals recommended Rosario’s ComidaMex & Bar for the best Mexican food in town. We thought it was going to be a hole in the wall spot, however it turned out to be a semi-upscale, beautiful restaurant (with great margs!).
The brunch at the cute Box St All Day Brunch aka The Box Street Social was great as well. Even though I grew up near the Mexico border, I had never tried chilaquiles. That day had it at brunch and then again at the delicious Cuishe Cocina Mexicana for dinner! Mi Tierra Cafe y Panaderia is also a fun Mexican restaurant located more West with a vibrant, authentic feel.
This was my fourth Voodoo Doughnut after visiting the ones in Orlando, Portland, and Austin. SO ridiculously delicious and a must-stop. I always get one vegan maple bar and one vegan Portland cream, but there are countless amazing flavors. The texture of Voodoo vegan doughnuts is one of my favorites.
Commonwealth Coffeehouse & Bakery is a quaint spot that you must visit if you’re in the area. Their coffee & tea drinks are delicious, and they offer a diverse and tasty brunch menu.
Pearl District
The Pearl District is famous for The Culinary Institute of America. It has so much to offer for an evening our such as a beautiful bookstore, exquisite restaurants, and industrial-chic feel. We ate at Best Quality Daughter, and Asian cuisine spot that I HIGHLY recommend for its absolutely stunning vibe, dishes, and drinks!!!
The Alamo
The Alamo is a former mission established in 1718, previously known as Mission San Antonio de Valero. It’s a piece of Texas and American history that is literally walking distance from the riverwalk and worth stopping by!
This post was all about things to do in San Antonio, Texas (with a heavy emphasis on food, as always lol). Overall definitely worth checking out on a roadtrip or daytrip from another Texas city, such as Austin!
