5 Different Ways to Explore Orlando, Florida (Without going to a Theme Park!)

Orlando or “the city beautiful” is a massive city with so much diversity in food, activities, and sightseeing to offer. It may not be possible to see it all in just one day, but mix and match these 5 Different Ways to Explore Orlando, Florida for a wonderful experience outside the parks!

Relax at Lake Eola in the Morning

Nestled in the heart of downtown Orlando, Lake Eola is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. The swan-shaped paddle boats add a whimsical touch to the experience, making it perfect for couples, families, or anyone seeking a serene and leisurely activity.

A visit to Lake Eola on a Saturday morning wouldn’t be complete without stopping by the lively farmer’s market. Located around the lake’s perimeter, this vibrant market showcases a variety of local produce, artisanal goods, crafts, and more. Paddle around Lek Eola itself on a swan paddleboat!

Satisfy your sweet tooth at Greenery Creamery, known for its unique and imaginative flavors, like lavender honey, strawberry balsamic, and even charcoal! On the same street is Bynx, a combined coffee shop and vinyl store, I love that they carry the St. Pete-based Curious Cat Bakery goods!!

Head over to the all-vegan Market on South in the Milk District. Market on South is a unique eatery from where Dharma Kitchen and Valhalla Bakery were born. Located just a stone’s throw away from Lake Eola, this cozy spot serves up an array of mouthwatering vegan savory entrees as well as pastries.

If you’re up for travelling a little further out, you can visit where Dharma Southern Kitchen and Valhalla are relocated! Delicious!

Walk Around Winter Park around Noon

The list of top 5 different ways to explore Orlando, Florida is not complete without a visit to Winter Park. Winter Park is a charming suburb of Orlando, Florida, offers a perfect blend of culture, nature, and culinary delights. The most important to check out is definitely Krungthep, which offers a variety of unique teas and the most delectable Thai sandwiches and salads.

Park Avenue is lined with unique shops, exquisite restaurants, and a vibrant atmosphere. This tree-lined street is home to a myriad of upscale shops, boutiques, art galleries, and specialty stores around its very own Central Park.

When hunger strikes, head to Mynt or Tabla, elegant Indian restaurants that offer a fusion of traditional and contemporary flavors.

Conclude your Winter Park visit with the small but enchanting Kraft Azalea Garden. This garden is a hidden gem that showcases stunning oak trees, vibrant azalea blooms, and breathtaking views of the lake.

Enjoy Disney Springs or Universal City Walk in the Evening

Disney Springs is a vast, lively destination to experience Disney without needing to visit a park. Even bowling and a movie theater. Shopping is fantastic with stores like Uniqlo, Anthropologie, Free People, and my recent discovery Superdry. No trip to Orlando is complete without waiting in line to experience the spooky bakery Gideon’s. The underground Enzo’s Tavern is a cool hidden spot to grab a drink. Morimoto Asia offers a sleek setting with an impressive menu of Japanese food and specialty cocktails and sakes.

Universal City Walk is just as vibrant of a destination to spend a fun evening. Make sure to order your donuts from Voodoo Doughnut (my fourth location after Austin, San Antonio, and Portland!) in advance on the Universal app! Grab Mexican food at Antojitos and don’t forget the tableside guacamole. Finish with Dessert cocktails at the funky steam-punk themed Toothsome Chocolate Emporium.

Go Out in Downtown Orlando at Night

Brace yourself for the loud, bustling downtown Orlando scene at night, but two lower-key spots really stand out for a sophisticated but fun time. Mathers Social Gathering is a classy, prohibition-era speakeasy experience that you can’t miss.

Also hit up the smaller-scale speakeasy Hansen’s Shoe repair requiring a call for the password in advance.

You NEED to end the night at Gringo’s with the Double D’s, a hard taco wrapped in a soft taco held together by the most delicious queso!
